Rules Title

The Tournament is played under the CARHA rules of play for Old-Timers hockey. In addition:

There are 6 age divisions in the VICTORIA PLAYMAKER's TOURNAMENT; 55+, 60+, 65+, 70+, 75+, and 80+. To qualify for an age division, player must be the minimum age by December 31 of the year the tournament is played. Goaltenders in the 55+ Division have a 5 year grace period and goaltenders in the other 5 divisions have a 10 year grace period. We appreciate your sense of fair play in not having any individuals on your roster who do not meet these age requirements.

If an opposing team files a protest on an under-age player, proof of that player's age will be required. Should it be determined that the player is under age the team will forfeit their points earned for that game. Any protest must be filed with the tournament representative no later than one hour after the completion of the game.

A player must only play for one team during the tournament.

Each team is guaranteed 3 games, each game consisting of two 20 minute stop periods. There are no playoff games. The Point System has been discontinued.  Tournament results are based on wins and losses.

Three penalties in one game received by one player will result in that player being automatically ejected from the game. Any player ejected from a game with a misconduct, major or match penalty may not participate in any remaining games until he receives approval to do so from the Tournament discipline committee.

There is no automatic "mercy rule". In the event one team is 5+ goals ahead of the other team, the referee will ask both Captains if they wish to complete the game under straight time. If both Captains agree the game will be completed under straight time.

There will be an ice flood between games, and a dry scrape between the first and second period of each game (time permitting).  Players should remain on the bench during the dry scrape.

The first team listed on the game schedule will be the Visiting Team and will normally wear the dark coloured sweaters. However, in recognizing that all teams do not have 2 sets of sweaters, we ask those who do to please bring both sets to all games and to be prepared to switch in the event there is a conflict in colours.

Only players registered on the team roster prior to the team's first game are eligible to participate.

In keeping with the latest trends in hockey, the red line will not be in play for two-line pass rule, but will remain in play for the icing rule.

Notice to Players and Referees

We are still competitive or else we would not be playing this game. However we note that some participants appeared to have forgotten the spirit and intent of this tournament.  The Tournament Committee would like to clarify the following points:

 1.   We can assure you there are no scouts in the stands;

2.    Many of us have commitments that we have to meet after the tournament, whether it be travel, personal or work; and

3.    We all want to go home healthy.

This notice is to remind you that body contact is not permitted in old timers hockey. Therefore we have asked the referees to call all incidents where body contact causes or could cause injury to a player.

In particular, the following instructions have been passed to the referees:

a.     any trip, slash, hook, hold, or contact that causes a players to crash into the boards will result in a double minor;

b.    a deliberate body check will result in a double minor; and

c.     non-incidental high stick to the head will result in a major (5 min) penalty and a game.

For the information of players, the referee can also call a penalty (or penalties) on any player for "diving".

We realize there is some incidental contact expected and accepted playing hockey but if the body contact creates any of the situations above we have asked the referees to CALL A PENALTY (or penalties) as applicable.  Persistent body  contact will result in ejection from the game and even the tournament.
